Keep everything within your budget
It is important to have a budget when you shop. It allows you to keep track on your spending. No one would like to release stress only to regain it when you get the credit card bill. Before you even think of starting the engine of your car to go to the department store, think about how much you are going to spend. If possible, leave your credit cards at home to prevent the temptation of spending way beyond your budget.
Know what you want to buy first
Impulse buying can make a stressful situation worse. Picking up items that you do not really need can become a stress generator. To avoid stress from lurking at your credit card bill, it is important to know what you want to buy at the store first. Make a list of those important things that you need to buy. Do not fall the SALE bait
Mark downs are good because it allows you to afford an item otherwise way beyond your purchasing capability. But, before you drool at the prospect of owning an item on sale, think first. Ask yourself if you really need the item. Remember that an item on sale may not be necessarily practical. For example, a 100-inch 720p HDTV is on sale and costs the same as a 50-inch 1080p HDTV. Logic tells you to go for the 100-incher because it is big. The truth is a 1080p is clearer and smoother to look at. You will get a better viewing experience with the smaller but clearer 1080p TV.
Never shop with an empty stomach
Shopping with an empty stomach is never a good idea. Make sure that you are full before venturing to shop. A hungry shopper more often would eat at more expensive food joints and restaurants which may cut your shopping budget short. Also, you are prone to making unwise decisions if you are hungry. Shopping with an empty stomach will also make you vulnerable to headaches, dizziness, and other symptoms of anxiety and stress.
Important and urgent items first
Knowing your priorities is one characteristic of a wise shopper. Keep your eyes off on those attractive but unimportant items when you know that you have not bought the necessary items yet. Always prioritize the important and urgent items first. This will give you more time to spend on shopping for non-essential items. You will get less stress if you know that you have the important ones already checked out. Even if you ran out of time, you can be assured that the real reason why you shopped has been fulfilled.
Don’t get into a quarrel
If you feel that the customer service is rude just step away. Do not engage in rude banter when you can always walk away. You will lose a lot if you stoop down to their level. Remember that you are there to shop with the hope of reducing your stress and anxiety. Getting into a heated argument with the salesgirl will only defeat your purpose of shopping. Just walk away and forget about it. After all, you can always choose to shop at other stores whenever you want to.
Shopping should be stress-free always. However, it can become a nightmare if you don’t do it right. Don’t forget to relax and look for a place where you can sit whenever you feel tired.
