Moral communication: Precision in the use of a common ethical language, in order to be able to express and support one's moral views adequately to others
Subject: FW: FOLLOW THE LAW OF "GARBAGE TRUCKS"
Few weeks ago, I received an email from my former colleague with a subject “Follow the Law of Garbage Trucks.” Below is the message, I’m not sure if it’s his experience or somebody else’s.
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We
were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a
parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his
brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of
the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. In addition, I
mean he was friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy
almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my
taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run
around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of
disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it
and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just
smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and
spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage
trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning
with regrets, so..... 'Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the
ones who don't.'
My thoughts…..
When you have time, try to search this post at http://www.filipinasoul.com/are-filipinos-rude-by-nature/ and read about an Australian’s view of our nature.
Sad to say, almost majority of his comments about us are true. And another sad thing is that, it only shows in the people living in Metro Manila but if we go to the provinces, the folks and kids still personifies what we used to be known to the world, hospitable, kind, cheerful and has a good command of English language.
Kids here in the metro have no more respect for the elders, for the authorities or even to their peers and friends. You may ask “What went wrong?” The number one answer for that which I can think of is parenting. These people whom they called as parents or guardians are no longer capable of nurturing them because of poverty and the deficiency of proper education.
Because of their empty stomach, they allow them to do petty misdemeanor, until it becomes a habit, they now steal bigger things up until the use a knife or gun to commit crimes. Ultimately they ended up in jail, the parents or relatives seeks now the assistance of a politician, he gives some money, they borrowed from relatives, they sell their property or worst other’s property and he’s back to the society. These types of scenarios go on and on in our community today.
When we stepped out of the taxi, were still talking about that driver inside the pedicab and we just agreed that maybe he’s not happy today but me and my husband are. We are happy because we’re going to see our daughter after being in the office and in Robinson the whole day, we are now kissing her and she will give us that embrace and the “I love you” words...
On the email I receive, I like the phrase “Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.” It really makes sense having a positive outlook so you’ll stay happy and I guess, successful…
